Our History
OUR HISTORY...
Back in the early days... Tony Nixon, Rossendale radio's project manager had the idea with a group of radio enthusiasts to get together and bring a radio station to an area that was not served by commercial radio...
In August 2007, negotiations started between Rossendale Valley Radio and Rossendale Radio in relation to a merger as it was felt that both groups had similar aims and each held skills and support that were best used for community benefit in a single organisation. This was agreed and the merger was carried out in September 2007.

Tony has lived in the area all his life , worked in commercial radio for over 11
years, and is acutely aware of the benefits that community radio can bring to the valley. He began initial talks with regards to the project “Rossendale Radio”, with interested groups in September 2006, and Rossendale Radio Limited became incorporated in July 2007.
The station was changed from “Limited by Shares”, to “CIC”, by way of vote on Thursday 25th October 2007.
In February 2008 the good news arrived..."Rossendale Radio have now heard from Ofcom that the radio license for Rossendale has been granted."
This was the start for the team behind the application to start to fund and set up the radio studios needed to broadcast Rossendale Radio.

THE TEAM
Rossendale radio has brought together a great team of people who will make a radio station that is for the people of The Valley, and we invite everybody to get involved at whatever level they wish. If you have an interest in presenting a radio programme, then, with a small amount of training, why not come and present your own show.

Tony Nixon, Paul Teague, Liam Forristal, Andy Hargreaves, Brendan Hamer and Barry Payton have been joined by Stuart Clarkson, Phil Ord, Louise Chicot, Roy Martin and Gaye Nield as the team that will get the station underway.
Presenters, Ed Shepherd, Ollie Holdsworth and Liam Holdsworth soon joined the team along with Peter Sweetmore and the team from CVS.

The rest is up to you! As we progress we will be giving you the chance to get involved and even present your own show!
